In August, I will take to the streets with thousands of Pelotonia Riders to raise awareness of the progressive and integrative research that is taking place at the James Cancer Hospital, in Columbus, Ohio. The James is the Midwest’s first and only freestanding cancer hospital and research institute. The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute – is one of only 40 centers in the United States designated by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. The James is a national leader in creating and testing new therapies based on scientific research, many of which are offered nowhere else in the world.
What is Pelotonia? We are a grassroots community dedicating thousands of miles on the bicycles, countless hours of fundraising, hundreds of volunteers, one cancer center and millions of dollars all dedicated to healing, understanding and ultimately preventing this deadly disease. Each day, patients, survivors, and their families inspire those of us to ride in order to increase awareness. Cycling is a healthy, accessible and visible sport – perfect for spreading the news of healthy living. After a recent Pelotonia fundraiser, my 3 year old toddler said, “Mommy, I want to ride my bike REEEAALLY far so I can earn money.” The message is clear and concise.
Ride With Heart. Not everyone has the time to train for a two-day 180 mile bike ride. This August, join Pelotonia virtually by riding with your heart. To reach my fundraising goal of $4,000, I’m reaching out to business owners and activists. I will be placing my order for Pelotonia Kit in the next two weeks. For a limited time, you can donate a minimum of $100 to Pelotonia (rider AB0037), send me your .eps logo and earn a place on the jersey that will see nearly two thousand road miles by the end of the summer. Donations “In Memory Of” are also accepted. You may also buy prominent placing on the back of the jersey for $500. Should you feel moved, the side panel of the shorts are available for $1000.
The Nitty Gritty. If you would like a jersey for yourself, a family member or employees, the jerseys are available at a pass-along cost of $70. Sizes are available for both men and women. There will be a one-time order for the jerseys. The donations are tax deductible, but the cost for the jerseys are not. Celtic Naturals will be donating thank you gifts to all sponsors offering donations greater than $250. If there is sufficient interest, we may order t-shirts instead of cycling jerseys as a lower cost option for showing your support. Please contact me.
